Sweet Sausage Chili
Ingredients
- 1 lb. bacon, diced
- 1 red onion, diced
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 lb. sweet italian sausage
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 30 oz. great northern beans
- 28 oz. crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup ketchup
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
- 1 cup water
- 3 Tbsp. chili powder
- 1 tsp. smoked paprika
- 1 tsp. cumin
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. pepper
Instructions
- Cook 1 lb. bacon in a large dutch oven until crispy
- Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside
- Drain most of the bacon fat
- Add 1 red onion to the dutch oven and cook for 2 minutes
- Add 1 lb. ground beef and 1 lb. sweet italian sausage and sauté until fully cooked
- Stir in 3 cloves garlic and cook for 1 minute
- Add 30 oz. great northern beans, 28 oz. crushed tomatoes, 1 cup ketchup, ½ cup brown sugar, 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce, and 1 Tbsp. Dijon mustard, mixing until well combined
- Stir in 1 cup water
- Stir in 3 Tbsp. chili powder, 1 tsp. smoked paprika, 1 tsp. cumin, 2 tsp. salt, and 1 tsp. pepper
- Add bacon bits
- Simmer chili for 30 minutes, stirring every ten minutes
- Add more water as-needed
- Serve with cheese and cornbread
